I recently had this John Frieda duo arrive in the mail (yay for early Christmas prezzies!), and have been testing them out to tell you guys about them. I have very thick and curly hair, so any hair product that offers a frizz-ease solution, I am all for it.

I’ve been using this product for two weeks now and here are my thoughts: I noticed a difference in the texture of my hair from the first use, my hair just felt softer and less coarse. I didn’t notice much of a difference to the frizz but the bottle promises a difference after multiple washes. Now, my frizz is noticeably reduced and I am so happy about it, especially leading up to the more humid months. Don’t get me wrong, this product won’t perform miracles, but if you’re like me and any help in the frizz department is appreciated, then give this a try!

Spot Check: Melt

By Tuesday, November 15, 2016 0 Permalink 3

Stop everything. There is a grilled cheese spot in Cape Town!

Melt is a new (and very tiny) take-away joint at 233 Long Street. It is just past Beerhouse and contains some lovely ladies to take your order, four tables, and some very yummy melted goodness.

Their menu is displayed on a board in the restaurant, with ten savoury options and two sweet options, as well as hot and cold beverages. When I visited, I tried “The Pesto” (R40) which was basil pesto, danish feta, peppadews, and mozzarella melted into a rye toastie – and boy, was it delicious.┬áThere are a variety of unique and classic toppings to choose from as well as bread options to have it served on.

I would recommend going out of peak hours because if you hit the lunch rush, it can be a bit manic and you will wait a bit for your order. The prices were also slightly steep for a toasted sandwich but I think it’s worth it, especially if, like me, toasted sandwiches are one of those foods that you crave. There is currently a special running – R40 for a classic toastie and flat white.

If you’re in town and are feeling for a cheesy classic with a twist, give this spot a go. You won’t regret it!

Review: Clarins Double Serum

Meet the latest and greatest addition to my skincare – the Clarins Double Serum (woooo!). I am constantly trying out new skincare products, and serums are one of my favourites to play around with. I recently saw this at my local Discem and it intrigued me enough to put it in my basket. Here is what I thought čÖé

This serum is a two-phase serum that is part of the Clarins Anti-Age system. I am 25 and have decided to incorporate some anti-aging products into my skincare routine as a preventative measure. This quickly became a favourite. The bottle says to use two pumps but I find that one is enough. I pump this onto the tips of my fingers, rubs my fingers together, and then pat the product all over my face and neck. The smell is so good and the consistency feels so incredibly nourishing.

Over time this product will prevent wrinkles, hydrate your skin, and leave it feeling super healthy and glowy. Just the way I like it!

Summer Essential #1 – SPF

By Friday, November 4, 2016 0 Permalink 2

I can’t stress the importance of using an SPF on your face, and wearing it all. year. round. I love makeup and the fact that it emphasises natural beauty, but I promise you, if you look after your skin, you’ll have to try a lot less to cover up imperfections. It starts with your base!

These are my two absolute favourite SPF products. They are both for the face, both incredibly lightweight, and are both great for applying makeup on top.

Let’s start with Kiehl’s. I find the formula on this slightly lighter and the finish is slightly more matte throughout the day, so makeup sits better on top of this. Retail price: R615.

The Body Shop Skin Defence has the same SPF, has the same main ingredient (water), but gets slightly oily the longer it sits on your skin and has 10 ml less product than the Kiehl’s UV Guard. Retail price: R220.

I have love for both of these products, but if you’re on a budget, I would recommend going for The Body Shop’s Skin Defence. They are both light and smell like Summer – definitely a must in any person’s Summer essentials.

Be safe in the sun, guys!
